Senegal - 2025

The beach club in Senegal is conceived as a coastal enclave that weaves together gastronomy, leisure and landscape in a single gesture. Positioned within a sensitive natural setting, the scheme emerges from a thorough study of the physical and cultural context: gentle topography, native vegetation and the tropical climate informed its layout.

The programme is anchored by a central bar, flanked by dining areas beneath a timber colonnade and lounge zones at the water’s edge. Structural elements are executed in locally sourced stone and laminated timber, capped with thatched roofs that diffuse light and enable cross-ventilation. This restrained palette—local stone, warm-toned wood and natural fibres—addresses sustainability and climatic comfort while referencing regional building traditions.

A sweeping roof canopy extends along the club’s front, casting continuous shade and mediating a fluid transition between interior and exterior. The open plan prioritises views of the sea and allows the various functions to operate as connected yet autonomous spaces. Bespoke furniture and integrated planting reinforce the link to the immediate landscape.

At night, an illuminated path threads through palms to the main entrance, where a timber structure and warm lighting announce arrival. The project examines how architecture can frame social interaction and recreation, responding to a tropical climate and integrating traditional techniques and materials within a contemporary language.
